Pair arrested for drug possession following a pursuit on Thruway with State Police.

Ulster, NY – On September 6, 2019, at approximately 7:45 a.m., State Police attempted to stop a 2018 Dodge Caravan on I-87 in the town of Ulster for a vehicle and traffic violation, but the vehicle failed to comply. During the brief pursuit the driver intentionally struck the State Police car causing damage and became disabled.
Troopers were able to prevent the vehicle from continuing and immediately took the driver into custody. The driver, Jonathan E. Mutha, 26, of Howard Beach, NY, was found to be impaired by drugs and in possession of approximately 62 grams of marijuana. He was transported and processed at SP Kingston where he was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd degree; a Class A Misdemeanor, Reckless Driving; an Unclassified Misdemeanor, Criminal Possession of Marijuana 4th degree; a Class A Misdemeanor, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd degree; a Class Class A Misdemeanor, and several Vehicle and Traffic Violations.
A passenger in the vehicle, Kelsi M. Sanchez, 19, of New York, NY, was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Kingston where she was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree; a Class A Misdemeanor.
Both Mutha and Sanchez were issued appearance tickets and released. No return court date available at this time.
A third occupant in the vehicle was not charged with any crime. No parties were injured as a result of the accident.
