Social Media Threat
On September 15, 2019, the New York State Police, Plattsburgh City Police Department, and SUNY Plattsburgh Police Department were notified of social media posts being circulated which referenced threats targeting “Saranac”. Subsequent to a joint investigation, the publisher of these posts was identified as 29-year-old Dominic J. Rainey, of Plattsburgh, NY.
Rainey was located and arrested for Making a Terroristic Threat and arraigned in the City of Plattsburgh Court before the Honorable Mark J. Rogers. Rainey was ordered held in the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond. Rainey was ordered to return to the City of Plattsburgh Court on September 16, 2019, at 9:00 a.m.
Local law enforcement, to include school resource officers working with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, have received no credible information that these threats targeted any particular building, school, or community. Based on the investigation conducted thus far, it is believed these threats were made at an individual, and this subject has been notified of these postings.
If any member of the community has information concerning a threat to the public, they are encouraged to contact law enforcement as soon as possible.
