State Police investigate serious accident after tractor trailer rear ends snow plow on I-90 eastbound in the town of Portland, Chautauqua County.

Portland, NY – On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at approximately 12:30 p.m., State Police responded to a serious personal injury accident at mile marker 480, eastbound on I-90 in the town of Portland, Chautauqua County.
A preliminary investigation revealed a New York State Thruway Authority plow truck was operating in the right lane, performing snow and ice removal with emergency amber lights running, was struck in the rear by a 2005 International Harvester tractor trailer. The impact caused both vehicles to crash through the guide rail and into the ditch on the south shoulder.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Marvin C. Stacy, 49, of Springfield, OH, was seriously injured and required the jaws of life in order to be extricated from the wreckage. Stacy was air lifted from the scene by Mercy Flight to Hamot Hospital in Pennsylvania. He is currently in stable condition and was issued multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
The driver of the plow, Alex R. Buss, 26, of Westfield, NY, and passenger, Brant D. Henning, 36, of Sherman, NY, both New York State Thruway Authority employees, were transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
The accident was reconstructed by the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and is still under investigation. The right lane remained closed for approximately 9 hours to allow for cleanup and had little impact on traffic delays.
