Rome Woman arrested on vehicular assault charges

State Police in Herkimer arrested Tabitha M. Byrne, age 39 from Rome, NY, for Vehicular Assault 1st degree, a class “D” felony.
On September 21, 2019, Byrne was operating a 2007 Chrysler Minivan westbound on State Route 365 in the town of Russia when she struck a 2020 Kia that was parked along the shoulder on State Route 365 causing serious injury to the occupant of the parked vehicle. The occupant, Michael A. Rossi Jr., age 51 from Baldwinsville, NY was transported by Mercy Flight to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse with severe head and neck injuries. On September 26, 2019, Mr. Rossi was discharged from the hospital with a diagnosed broken neck.
On November 12, 2019, Tabitha Byrne was charged after the State Police Forensic Lab in Albany determined her blood alcohol content to be .27%. She was arraigned in the town of Ohio Court and released.
