Five Arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon following a Traffic Stop in Syracuse

On November 23, 2019, at approximately 1:47 a.m., State Police stopped a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta on Court Street in the town of Salina after the driver appeared to be stopped at a green light at the intersection with New Court Street.  Troopers observed the driver flashing it’s high beams several times, and both side mirrors damaged and hanging off the vehicle. During an interview with the driver, Troopers smelled marijuana and asked the driver to exit the vehicle.

Troopers then asked the other four occupants to exit the vehicle. As the Trooper opened the right rear passenger’s door, he observed a handgun lying next to the passenger’s feet. The passenger was taken into custody without incident.

Five occupants in the vehicle were subsequently arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (loaded firearm), a class “C” felony:  
  • An 18-year-old female driver, from Syracuse, NY
  • Tavon M. Solomon-Jackson, age 27 from Syracuse, NY
  • An 18-year-old female from Syracuse, NY
  • An 18-year-old female from Syracuse, NY
  • Frank L. Fowler Jr., age 28 from Syracuse, NY
All five were transported to the Onondaga County Justice Center in Syracuse for centralized arraignment.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
