Allegany accident leads to multiple felonies for Portville man

On December 1, 2019, SP Machias Troopers arrested Shane A. Rice, 29, of Portville, NY for felony Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st Degree, four counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, Using a Vehicle Without an Interlock Device, and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree.

During their investigation of a one-car accident on Interstate 86 in the town of Allegany, Rice, the driver, was exhibiting obvious signs of impairment. Troopers determined he had been operating a motor vehicle in an impaired condition. Rice was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, crack cocaine, morphine, and amphetamine.

Rice was arraigned in Allegany Town Court, where he was remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail without bail. He is due to appear in Allegany Town Court later this month.
