Long Island man arrested for impersonation following traffic stop

PRESS RELEASE

Staten Island, New York – On January 31, 2018, the New York State Police SP Staten Island barracks arrested Joseph Desire, age 50, of Long Island, New York, for Criminal Impersonation 1st degree, a Class E Felony, subsequent to a vehicle and traffic stop. 

Desire was operating a motor vehicle without an inspection certificate and operating an unregistered Motor Vehicle. Desire was asked by Troopers to produce identification in which a Police Department ID was produced and Desire identifed himself as a Police Officer. 

Upon examining the identification, it was determined that the Police ID was fictitious. 

Desire was taken into custody without incident and processed at the 120th Precinct in Staten Island, NY where the identification was verified as fictitious by the NYPD Criminal Impersonation Unit.
