Ellenburg Depot man arrested for violating order of protection

On February 1, 2018, at approximately 7:50 p.m., State Police conducted a traffic stop on Rugar Street in the town of Plattsburgh on a 2013 Ford Explorer. The vehicle’s registration, was suspended and the vehicle was found to be uninsured.
The operator, James A. Eldred, 39, of Ellenburg Depot, was found to be violating an active stay-away order of protection by having the protected party, a 34-year-old female passenger, present in his vehicle. A child, age 3, was also found in the vehicle, improperly restrained.
Eldred was found to have been previously convicted of Criminal Contempt 2nd degree. Therefore, he was charged with Criminal Contempt 1st degree (E felony), and ticketed for operating while registration is suspended, operating vehicle without insurance, and a child restraint violation. Eldred was arraigned at Peru Town Court in front and released on pretrial release. He is to reappear in Plattsburgh Town Court on February 6, 2018, at 4 p.m.
