Rome man charged with DWI following crash in Whitestown

State Police in Marcy arrested Jerry R. Morris Jr., age 31, from Rome, NY for DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and speeding.
 
On February 19, 2018, at approximately 3:40 a.m., State Police observed a 2006 Toyota Highlander traveling at 115 MPH in a marked 65 MPH zone on State Route 49 in the Town of Marcy.  Troopers then observed the vehicle lose control, strike a guide rail and drive down an embankment on River Street in the town of Whitestown causing extensive guard rail damage. 
 
The driver, identified as Jerry R. Morris Jr. of Rome, NY was found to be intoxicated.  It was later discovered that he took the vehicle from a residence in Yorkville without the owner’s permission.  He was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd degree, Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and speeding.  He was arraigned at the centralized arraignment in Oneida County and remanded to the Oneida County jail in lieu of $7500 bail.
