Woman arrested for theft and fraud at the Massena Memorial Hospital

On March 6, 2018, State Police responded to a report of theft at the Massena Memorial Hospital. An investigation, which was initiated by the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement, revealed that a registered nurse employed at the hospital made several unlawful medication withdrawals between January 1, 2018, and February 13, 2018.
 
51-year-old Helen E. Lapage of Raymondville, made several withdrawals of hydrocodone pills and oxycodone pills from the Automatic Dispensing System (ADS) medication system at Massena Memorial Hospital.  She engaged in an ongoing unauthorized course of conduct to divert the controlled substances by accessing the ADS system and unlawfully utilized patient information without a valid physician order.
 
Lapage was arrested and charged with Computer Trespass, Falsifying Business Records 1st degree, Fraud and Deceit Related to Controlled Substances and a violation of prohibited acts under the Public Health Law. Lapage was released with appearance tickets returnable in the Massena Village Court on March 13, 2018 at 1:30 p.m.
