Athens, NY man killed in a fatal vehicle crash in the town of New Baltimore

On October 23, 2018, The New York State Police investigated a two car fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred at 4:03 p.m. on State Route 9W in the town of New Baltimore.

 The investigation revealed that a vehicle being operated an 18 year old male from Hannacroix, NY, was stopped in the southbound lane waiting to turn left onto Kretimier Road when it was struck in the rear end by a pick-up truck which was also travelling southbound on State Route 9W. The pick-up truck was being operated by Mark Sterritt, age 61, of Athens, NY.  After striking the rear of the 18 year old's vehicle, Sterritt drove off the right shoulder and struck a concrete culvert. 

Sterritt was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 18 year old operator and the other two occupants of his vehicle were uninjured.

 The state police were assisted at the scene by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, and the New Baltimore Fire Dept.
