Trooper called to gas station for complaint, assaulted by suspect

(Triangle, NY – October 26, 2018) – A Pennsylvania man faces several charges after he attacked a Trooper when the trooper responded to a complaint at the ExpressMart on State Route 11 in the town of Triangle on October 24, 2018.  Witnesses who called 911 said the man was reportedly spraying gasoline in the parking lot of ExpressMart and threatening to ignite it.
When the trooper arrived the suspect, Matthew C. Altif, age 31 of Schnecksville, PA attacked thr trooper, punching him in the face.  Altif was arrested with the assistance of other troopers and a Whitney Point School Resource Officer.  During the course of the investigation, suspected drugs were located in Altif’s vehicle. 

While Altiff was being transported by the trooper for processing, Altif became violent and began kicking the inside the vehicle and kicked the trooper in the head all while he was handcuffed in the vehicle.  The trooper pulled over and was assisted by troopers and Broome County Deputies. 
Altif was charged with the felonies of Assault in the second degree, Criminal Mischief in the second degree, Arson in the third degree and Escape in the first degree.  He was also charged with the misdemeanors of Resisting Arrest and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree.  He was arraigned at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing where he was remanded to the Broome County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
