Traffic stop in Malone leads to drug arrests

On July 10, 2019, at approximately 9:15 p.m., State Police conducted a traffic stop on State Route 11 in the town of Malone on a 2012 Dodge Avenger for failure to signal a lane change. The operator, George P. Coupal, 55, and the passenger, Samantha L. Coupal, 31, both of Rouses Point were subsequently arrested after they were found in possession of over one-half ounce of cocaine and over sixteen ounces of marijuana.
 
Both defendants were charged with one count each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree, and Criminal Possession of Marihuana 2nd degree. They were arraigned at the town of Malone Court, and both were remanded to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail, or $20,000 bond..
