Green Island man facing drug charges after stop

On October 8, 2019, State Police in Latham arrested 29-year-old Markel R. Mendoza of Green Island, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th degree (D felony), Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd degree (A misdemeanor), and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree.
Shortly after 1:00p.m. on Tuesday, State Police stopped a vehicle traveling on I-90 in the city of Albany, for a traffic infraction. When the Trooper spoke with the driver, Markel Mendoza, he observed a plastic bag containing synthetic cannabinoids.
A search of the vehicle and it occupants revealed that Mendoza was also in possession of a quantity of crack cocaine, MDMA, and a scale containing cocaine residue.
Mendoza was taken into custody and transported to SP Latham for processing. He was arraigned in Albany City Court and remanded to Albany County Jail without bail. He is due back in court at a later date.
