On September 20, 2020, at approximately 12:41 a.m., State Police responded to a residence on State Route 9 in the town of Beekmantown for a domestic dispute. An investigation at the scene revealed that 21-year-old John J. Manning Jr., choked the victim until she lost consciousness, and kicked her repeatedly. Manning was arrested and charged with Strangulation 2nd degree and Attempted Assault 3rd degree. He was arraigned by the Peru Town Court and remanded to the Clinton County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, or $10,000 secured bond. Manning is to reappear in the Town of Beekmantown Court at a later date. An order of protection was issued.
