Belfast man arrested for DWAI-Drugs after crash

On June 26, 2021, SP Amity Troopers arrested Joseph D. Sweet, 42, of Belfast, NY for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree.

Troopers investigating a one-car accident on State Route 305 in the town of Belfast observed Sweet exhibiting obvious signs of impairment and determined he had been operating a motor vehicle while in an impaired condition. He refused to perform standardized field sobriety tests at the scene. Sweet fled from the scene, was subdued by a Taser, then arrested and transported to SP Amity for processing. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluation by the Wyoming county Sheriff’s Office confirmed impairment.

Kaczor was released with appearance tickets for Belfast Town Court, where he is due to appear in July.
