On July 24, 2019, State Police in New Scotland arrested 22-year-old Shawn M. Leno of Berne, for Menacing 3rd degree, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, and Resisting Arrest.

On July 19, 2019, Troopers responded to a work zone on Thatcher Park Road in the town of Berne. Police were contacted after the caller observed Leno yelling obscenities at a flagger who was holding up traffic for construction equipment that was in the roadway. The caller followed the car that Leno was in and contacted 911. After a short distance Leno and a 17-year-old subject jumped out of their car and ran up to the caller, threatening them and throwing objects at their vehicle. Leno and the 17-year-old ran into the woods before patrols arrived.

Troopers checked a residence in the area that Leno and the 17-year-old were known to frequent. Leno jumped out of a window in the rear of the home and fled into a wooded area. The 17-year-old was located inside the residence and taken into custody. The 17-year-old was subsequently charged with Menacing 3rd degree and is due in Berne Town Court on September 10, 2019 at 7 p.m.

Patrols continued to search the area but were unsuccessful in immediately locating Leno. On July 24, 2019, Leno turned himself in at SP New Scotland and was processed.

Leno was arraigned in Berne Town Court and is due back on July 30, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
