Bethpage man arrested for driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault after crash on the Southern State Parkway

PRESS RELEASE

On January 5, 2023, just after 10:30 PM, the State Police responded to a crash on the westbound Southern State Parkway west of exit 32 in the town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County. 

 

Preliminary investigation revealed, a 2021 Mercedes Benz 220, driven by Edgard Platero, 28 of Bethpage, NY, was traveling westbound on the Southern State Parkway when his vehicle struck the rear of a 2021 Toyota Tacoma.  The collision caused the Toyota to continue into the right shoulder where it struck a tree.  The driver of the Toyota was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with broken ribs and a punctured lung.

 

Platero was found to be intoxicated and was arrested. Platero was charged with Vehicular Assault 1st Degree with Previous Conviction, a D – Felony, Circumventing/Operating without an Interlock Device, an A Misdemeanor, and Driving While Intoxicated with Previous Conviction in 10 years, an E Felony.

 

Platero was held for arraignment at Nassau County First District Court.
