PRESS RELEASE

On July 18, 2020, at approximately 9:43 a.m., State Police responded to Wal-Mart, located at 3222 State Route 11, in the town of Malone for a report of a male with a knife.

30-year-old Thomas R. Cook Jr., of Bombay was located inside the store with a knife that he was using in an effort to remove security webbing from merchandise. Cook failed to comply with multiple orders to drop the knife. As a result, a trooper deployed his Division-issued taser.  Cook was taken into custody. Further investigation revealed Cook damaged a 55-inch Samsung television when he attempted to cut and remove the store’s security webbing.  The television had a value of $498. He was charged with Menacing a Police Officer 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, and Criminal Mischief 3rd degree. He was arraigned in the Town of Malone Court and was remanded to Franklin County Jail on no bail.

State Police were assisted by the Malone Village Police Department.
