Clarkstown, NY – On July 5, 2020, at approximately 1:00 a.m., State Police responded to a report of a one car rollover crash on I-87 southbound, in the town of Clarkstown. When Troopers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the 1997 Toyota Avalon was stolen out of NYPD and the driver fled on foot. A witness observed the driver, who appeared to be injured, exit the vehicle, and supplied State Police with identifying information. Another witness followed the driver on foot, who was located in a ditch in the vicinity of the I-87 ramp and Route 59 by Rockland County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver was identified as Rafael L. Grullon, 42, of Bronx, NY and while being treated for injuries, was found to be in possession of cocaine. He was transported to Nyack Hospital for serious, non-life threatening injuries.
Grullon was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree; a Class E Felony, Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree; both Class A Misdemeanors, and Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs; Unclassified Misdemeanors. He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Clarkstown Court on July 27, 2020 at 9:30 a.m.
Grullon was turned over to the Nyack Hospital staff where he was listed in serious condition from the injuries he sustained in the crash.
