Queens, New York – On September 20, 2020 at approximately 6:45 p.m., Troopers from SP Rockaways arrested Theodore A. Simpson, age 30, of Bronx, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree – a class C felony, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree – class A misdemeanors.

The Troopers were patrolling the Cross Bay Bridge and conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2008 Acura TL, operated by Simpson, because a forged out-of-state registration was displayed on the vehicle. As the Trooper placed his patrol vehicle in park, the subject vehicle took off at a high rate of speed and then crashed into the TD Bank at 162-02 Cross Bay Boulevard while attempting to make a right-hand turn.

The investigation into the incident found that Simpson criminally possessed a loaded firearm and a small amount of controlled substances located in his vehicle. Simpson was subsequently arrested and transported to a local hospital after sustaining a leg injury from the crash. There were no other injuries reported during this incident.

Simpson was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree.
