Staten Island, New York – On January 17, 2021 at approximately 4:15 p.m., Investigators from the SP Manhattan Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit South arrested Jose Tirado, age 40, of Brooklyn, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree - a class C felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree – a class D felony, Criminal Possession of a Firearm - a class E felony and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree – a class A misdemeanor.
The Investigators from the SP Manhattan BCI and CTIU - South were conducting an investigation at the Morgantown Gun Show in Pennsylvania, involving firearms and firearm parts illegally entering New York State. Through their investigation, with assistance from Special Agents of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, it was found that Tirado purchased firearms and firearm parts from the Morgantown Gun Show and was transporting them in the vehicle into New York City.
Once the information was developed, the Investigators, with the assistance of Troopers from SP Staten Island, conducted a traffic stop in Staten Island on a white 2011 Ford Expedition, operated by Tirado, where the firearm parts were known to be. The investigation into the incident revealed Tirado to illegally possess various firearms and firearm parts, including a pistol, shotgun, rifle, and high capacity ammunition magazines. During the incident, Tirado’s driver’s license was also found to be suspended while driving with a five and seventeen-year-old passenger in the vehicle.
Tirado was subsequently arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree, Manufactures, Transport, Disposition and Defacement of Weapon, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, New York City Administrative Code 10-314 and New York City Administrative Code 10-131(i)(3), and New York City Administrative Code 10-306(D). Tirado was remanded to Richmond County Central Booking pending arraignment.
