Buffalo woman arrested for Criminal Possession of a Weapon stemming from a mental health call at her residence

On September 18, 2023, Kara E. Halmstad, 42, of Clarence, NY was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree; a Class D Felony and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree; a Class A Misdemeanor.   

On September 18, 2023, Troopers responded to a 911 call at the residence of Kara E. Halmstad for a mental health incident involving a separate party.  Investigation determined that Halmstad was in possession of a Ruger EC9S pistol, a Heritage Rough Rider .22 caliber pistol and two high-capacity magazines.  Halmstad did not possess a New York State Pistol permit.

Halmstad was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Clarence where he was released on an appearance ticket at the authority of a Clarence Town Justice.
