PRESS RELEASE

On Tuesday October 15th, two men were arrested for DWI after their car went off the road. New York State Police were dispatched by the Schuyler county 911 center to County road 23 & Cross road in the Town of Reading for a report of a vehicle in the ditch. When State Police arrived they observed a Dodge Dakota in the ditch and partially on the road. The driver of the vehicle Ronald Howell, age 59 of Penn Yan, was standing on the shoulder of the road while his passenger, David Plumlee, age 57 also of Penn Yan, was trying to drive the vehicle out of the ditch. Police instructed Plumlee to turn off the car and exit the vehicle. Both individuals smelled strongly of alcohol. Howell was unable to complete road side sobriety test and Plumlee refused to cooperate with road side sobriety tests. Drunker’s Auto Sale arrived to tow the vehicle out of the ditch and Police determined that the vehicle ended up in the ditch because the driver was traveling at an unsafe speed and missed a turn in the roadway. Howell and Plumlee were taken to the Montour Falls Station and placed under arrest for DWI. Howell’s BAC level was found to be .17%, more than twice the legal limit of .08%. Plumlee’ s BAC level was found to be .19%. Both men are to appear in court at a later date and they were released to a sober third party.
