Cold Case Tuesday: State Police continue to investigate a 12-year-old double homicide in Clinton County
On September 9, 2007, at 10:40 p.m., Clinton County Fire Control received a call reporting a fire at 71 Second Street in Lyon Mountain, New York.
Inside 71 Second Street were Frank Davey Jr., 44, his wife, Luciana Davey, 42, and their son, Frank Davey III. After a neighbor called 911, he heard an explosion and then screams for help.
The Lyon Mountain Fire Department, as well as several other area fire departments, responded to the scene. Upon their arrival, the first floor of the structure was fully involved.
Once firefighters were able to gain access to the structure, they discovered the bodies of two individuals later identified as Luciana Davey and her son, Frank Davey III.
During the investigation, Frank Davey Jr. told State Police he was asleep with his wife in their bedroom, their son was asleep in his adjacent bedroom.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., Mr. Davey was awakened by an explosion on the first floor of their residence. He and his wife got out of bed to determine what the explosion involved and discovered extreme heat and smoke coming up the stairwell from the first floor.
They retreated to their bedroom after waking their son.
Mr. Davey opened a bedroom window, and leaned out, his wife pushing him out onto the ground below.
Luciana and her son, Frank Davey III did not follow and died as a result of smoke inhalation.
Due to the loss of life, the fire scene was processed by New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, who determined the fire had several points of origin with accelerants detected. The cause was determined to be arson, and this case is considered an unsolved double Homicide.
