PRESS RELEASE

During the early morning of October 4th, 2020 at 12:50am, troopers assigned to the Brentwood Station stopped a white 2020 Mercedes Benz G30 for violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law on the northbound side of the Sunken Meadow Parkway in the town of Smithtown, Suffolk County.  The driver, Francis D. Garofalo, 55 years old, of Commack, NY, became combative during the performance of standard field sobriety testing and resisted arrest.  Garofalo assaulted both troopers, striking one in the eye and spraining the wrist of another, before they were able to place him in custody.  The troopers were treated for their injuries and released from Southside Hospital.  Garofalo was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (Misdemeanor) and Assault 2nd (Felony).  He is to be arraigned at Suffolk County First District Court
