Cortlandt, New York – On May 1, 2020, the New York State Police from the Cortlandt and Somers barracks arrested Karan Kanojia, age 19, of Cortlandt, for Leaving the scene of an incident without reporting, and the crash resulted in a fatality, a class D felony.

On April 30, 2020, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the State Police responded to a report of a pedestrian hit on State Route 6 (East Main Street) in the town of Cortlandt near Locust Avenue.  Investigation determined Karan Kanojia, operating a motor vehicle westbound on State Route 6 struck Luis A. Rivera, aged 37 years, of Peekskill, NY.  Kanojia then left the scene of the crash without reporting the incident.

The victim, Luis Rivera, was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

Kanojia was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Cortlandt Court on June 29, 2020, at 9:00 a.m.   

This investigation remains ongoing.
