The New York State Police today is reminding potential candidates that the deadline to register for the Trooper Entrance Exam is this Sunday, April 10, 2022.

Candidates can learn about the exam by visiting https://joinstatepolice.ny.gov/.

The exam will be administered through April 30, 2022. For the first time in State Police history, candidates are taking the exam on computer at one of the 54 testing centers in New York State. There are also testing centers at 250 other locations nationwide, and at 112 U.S. military facilities around the world.

Once candidates have completed their exam application, they will choose a date, time, and nearby testing center to take the exam. The State Police has provided an online study guide to assist with preparation: https://joinstatepolice.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2021/08/study-guide-practice-test-for-the-nysp-trooper-examination.pdf.

No prior police or military experience is required to become a New York State Trooper.

EXAM QUALIFICATIONS:

• US Citizen

• 20-29 years of age (The maximum age may be extended one year for each year of full-time active military duty - up to a maximum of 7 years)

• High school diploma or equivalent

SALARY & BENEFITS:

• Starting salary: $59,612

• After one year: $84,331

• After five years: $100,281
