PRESS RELEASE
 

On August 7, 2020 at approximately 11:05 a.m., New York State Police at Deposit arrested Matthew B. Haigis, age 26 of Deposit, NY for the felonies of Burglary in the second degree and Criminal Contempt in the first degree.  He was also charged with the misdemeanors of Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree and Criminal Obstruction of Breathing. 

Troopers responded to a report of a physical dispute that was not in progress at a residence on North Sanford Road in the town of Deposit. Haigis was no longer on scene. 

The victim reported that Haigis broke into the victim’s residence then obstructed the victim’s breathing and broke a cellphone during an altercation.   An investigation also revealed that Haigis violated an order of protection.   

A trooper located Haigis operating a vehicle on Pine Street in the village of Deposit, initiated a traffic stop and subsequently arrested him.  He was transported to SP Deposit for processing and transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.
