Driver overdose, on the Wantagh State Parkway, leads to a Trooper being exposed to opioids, both the driver and Trooper transported to hospital

PRESS RELEASE

On Thursday January 12, 2022, just after 1:15 p.m., Troopers respond to an erratic operator on the Wantagh State Parkway southbound south of Hempstead Turnpike in the town of Hempstead, Nassau County.

The Troopers were on scene within minutes and found the vehicle disabled due to a crash. The driver was unresponsive and experiencing symptoms believed to be an opioid overdose. The Troopers administered narcan, and the driver was taken to Nassau University Medical Center. While the Troopers were investigating the crash, a Trooper started having symptoms of what is believed to be an opioid exposure. The Trooper was administered narcan and taken to Nassau University Medical Center. 

The driver, Jaqueline Ann Morales, 35, of **correction**East Meadow was arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.
