While on routine patrol Monday September 30th, New York State Police stopped a vehicle getting on Interstate 86 in the Town of Chemung. The driver of the vehicle, William Moharter, age 61 of Elmira, was unable to locate the registration to his vehicle and had slurred speech with a strong odor of alcohol. Moharter told Police he had had a few beers. Moharter was unable to complete roadside sobriety tests. At the Wellsburg station Moharter was found to have a BAC of .13%, well over the legal limit of .08%. Moharter was arrested for DWI and issued traffic violations. He is set to return to the Town of Chemung court at a later date and released to a sober third party.
