Cortlandt, New York – On January 13, 2021, the New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks began investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash on West Mount Airy Road in the town of Cortlandt.

At approximately 5:25 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to a rollover motor vehicle crash on West Mount Airy Road in the area of Hollis Lane.  Croton Fire Department was on scene assisting the occupants of a 2006 Ford Econoline operated by Samuel A. Puerto Paz, age 32, of Bronx, NY.  Puerto Paz and his passenger Enzo Flores, age 20, of Bronx, NY, were westbound when the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons.  The vehicle struck a tree stump causing the operator to lose control.  The vehicle then reentered the roadway crossing over both lanes of travel, overturned, and struck a utility pole.

Puerto Paz was pronounced deceased on scene by paramedics.  Flores was transported by Croton EMS to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

This investigation remains ongoing.
