PRESS RELEASE
 

On September 11, 2021 at approximately 2:16 P.M., Troopers out of SP Machias responded to a motorcycle collision on State Route 242 in the town of Machias. Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle was traveling east bound on State Route 242 with a group of three other motorcycles.  The motorcycle veered across the west bound lane for no apparent reason, striking the guide rail which ejected the operator, William H. Shumaker, 72 of Warsaw, NY and the passenger, Judith Shumaker, 77 of Warsaw, NY.  The operator sustained fatal injuries and the passenger sustained severe head trauma.  Troopers attempted to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on the operator.  The passenger was taken my Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for her injuries. 

NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Cattaraugus County Coroner assisted with this investigation.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
