Forged check arrest in Cortlandt

Cortlandt, New York - On December 29, 2022, the New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks arrested Bertha Bynes, age 73, of Cortlandt, for Forgery in the 2^nd degree, a class D felony, and Criminal Mischief in the 3^rd degree, a class E felony. 

Beginning on December 15, 2022, Troopers and Investigators in Cortlandt began investigating damage to a victim’s residence as well as the forgery of a check belonging to the victim.  Investigation identified Bynes and led to her subsequent arrest.   

Bynes was arraigned before the town of Cortlandt Court and released on her own recognizance.  Bynes is scheduled to reappear before the Court on January 9, 2023, at 4:00 p.m.
