On Thursday, March 3, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., East Hampton Village Police responded to a reported larceny at the Balenciaga retail store, located at 54 Newtown Lane, East Hampton, NY. Store employees reported that a number of subjects had entered the store and stole numerous handbags with an approximate value of over $90,000 and fled in a black Dodge Durango. Within minutes, an East Hampton Village Police Officer spotted the Durango and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply.
A short time later, a State Trooper spotted the vehicle travelling on Sunrise Highway in the area of Exit 63. The Trooper attempted to stop the Durango, but the driver again failed to comply and drove off. The Durango entered the Long Island Expressway and became disabled near the Exit 69 off-ramp, and the occupants attempted to run from the scene. A Trooper took one subject into custody, and after a brief search, three other subjects were arrested with the assistance of the Suffolk County Police Department. Numerous handbags were recovered from the scene identified as being from the theft in East Hampton.
State Police charged Baseemah Davis, 34, Ali Harris, 28, Jamal Johns, 25, and Wazir Rodgers, 24, all from Newark, NJ, with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd Degree.
The four subjects were also charged with Grand Larceny 2nd Degree by the East Hampton Village Police Department.
The four subjects will be arraigned at both East Hampton Court and Suffolk County First District Court.
