PRESS RELEASE
 

Newburgh, NY – On August 7, 2022, at approximately 9:15 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a single car property damage accident on I-87 northbound, in the town of Newburgh.  During the investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Maria C. Gebremichael, 37, of Gansevoort, NY, was found to be intoxicated while traveling with her 6 and 8-year-old children.  Gebremichael was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Newburgh.   The children were turned over to a sober relative.  No injuries were reported as a result of the crash.      

Gebremichael’s blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.10% and was subsequently charged with two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the Vehicle; a Class E Felony.  She was turned over to a sober third party with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Newburgh Court on August 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.
