 Acting Major R. Christopher West
 Troop G Commander

On August 10, 2020, State Police in Queensbury arrested 25-year-old James J. Halpin of South Glens Falls, Burglary 2nd degree and Arson 3rd degree, both are class C felonies.

At approximately 9:28 p.m. on August 10th, State Police were conducting a traffic stop on Glen Street in the town of Queensbury when Halpin approached the stopped vehicle, interrupting the traffic stop, telling the Trooper he was monitoring their behavior. Halpin was asked to watch the stop from the sidewalk, which he did. At the conclusion of the stop, Halpin walked down Glen Street and was seen attempting to enter a residence as if he lived there, but found the door locked and quickly left.

After checking the area, the Trooper was unable to locate Halpin, but a short time later observed that the back room of the home Halpin had tried to enter was on fire. With the assistance of another patrol, the Trooper responded to the back of the residence, which was under construction and was not occupied, and there they located Halpin climbing out of a second story window. Halpin yelled obscenities at patrols and then sat on the roof just above where the fire was burning. Police attempted to talk Halpin off the roof, but eventually had to go onto the roof and bring him down.

Halpin was taken into custody and transported to SP Queensbury for processing. Investigation determined that he had entered the residence, with no right to do so, and set fire to insulation.  He was transported to Warren County Centralized Arraignment Part where he was remanded to Warren County Jail on $20,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
