Buffalo, NY – On September 19, 2021, at approximately 4:30 a.m., State Police responded to a one-car motor vehicle crash on the I-190 Exit 4 (Smith St) deceleration ramp, in the city of Buffalo.   A preliminary investigation determined that the driver, Leland E. John, 23, of Gowanda, NY, was driving too fast for the exit ramp and rolled over, striking the left barrier. 

After further investigation, John, who was uninjured, was found to be intoxicated.  He was taken into custody, transported and processed at SP Buffalo, where his blood alcohol content was determined to be .18%. 

Additionally, John has a prior DWI conviction within the last 10 years and as a result, he was charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated as well as Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated; a Misdemeanor.  John was turned over to a sober third party and released on appearance tickets returnable to the City of Buffalo Court on October 6, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
