PRESS RELEASE

New Baltimore, NY – On March 2, 2023, at approximately 11:15 p.m., State Police attempted to stop a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt on I-87 for a vehicle and traffic violation but the driver failed to comply, and a pursuit ensued.  Troopers utilized a tire deflation device near mile marker 106, which caused the vehicle to sustain 2 flat tires, but the driver continued northbound and exited the Thruway at exit 21B (Coxsackie).  When the vehicle turned onto State Route 9W, Troopers from Troop F and a unit from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department joined the pursuit.  The driver then pulled into the Sunoco parking lot, striking a gas pump.  As the suspect vehicle attempted to exit the parking lot, the driver intentionally struck a Troop car and a Greene County Sheriff’s vehicle, at which point another Troop car utilized its front push bumper to strike the suspect vehicle, disabling it.  The driver, Angelo R. Paradiso Jr., 29, of Palenville, NY, was taken into custody without further incident.  No injuries were reported as a result of the collisions.

Further investigation determined Paradiso was intoxicated and was accompanied by a passenger in the vehicle.  Due to lack of involvement in the pursuit, the passenger was not charged.  Paradiso was transported to SP Albany where he refused to give a breath sample.  He was subsequently charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st degree; a Class D Felony, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree, Criminal Mischief 4th degree, Driving While Intoxicated, and two counts of Reckless Endangerment of Property; all Misdemeanors.

Paradiso was transported to the Town of Coxsackie Court for arraignment and was Released on his Own Recognizance.  He was issued appearance tickets for the Town of Coxsackie Court on April 3, 2023, and the Town of New Baltimore Court on April 11, 2023.
