PRESS RELEASE
 

On October 16, 2021, New York State Police at Ithaca arrested Robert S. Bailey, age 41 of Groton, NY for the felony of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second degree and the misdemeanors of Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the third degree, False Inspection Sticker and Reckless Driving. 

Shortly after 10:00 a.m., a trooper spotted a vehicle on Williams Street in the village of Groton and observed the driver make vehicle and traffic violations.  The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop but Bailey failed to comply.  Bailey subsequently struck another vehicle before crashing into a telephone pole.  Bailey was not injured. 

An investigation revealed that Bailey was in possession of a loaded gun.  Bailey was later arraigned before a judge and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on no bail. 

The investigation continues.
