On September 21, 2019, State Police in Granville arrested 36-year-old Alan M. Cain of Hampton, for two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana 2nd degree.
At approximately 9:35 p.m. on Saturday evening, Troopers were called to a residence in the town of Hampton after a woman returned home from work to find that her two children had been left home unsupervised. The children, both under the age of 10, had been left in the care of their father, Alan Cain.
As a Trooper responded to the call, he turned onto the street that residence was on and observed a vehicle pull onto the road behind him. The vehicle stopped abruptly and parked in the middle of the roadway.
When the Trooper approached the car, he identified the driver as Cain, who told the Trooper that he was returning home from visiting a friend. The Trooper could smell the odor of alcohol and observed an open beer in the vehicle’s cup holder.
Cain was administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which he failed, and was taken into custody. He was transported to SP Granville, where he provided a breath sample of .26% B.A.C. He was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of marijuana.
Cain was arraigned in Fort Ann Town Court and remanded to Washington County Jail on $100 cash or $500 bond. He is due back in court on October 3, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.
