On May 3, 2020, at approximately 9 p.m., State Police responded to a residence on Jefferson Street in the town of Hermon for a report of an assault.

An investigation revealed that Stephen M. Elwell, 65 of Hermon, struck a male victim on the shoulder with a pry bar. Elwell was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, both class D felonies. Elwell was arraigned in the Town of Gouverneur Court and released on his own recognizance.

State Police were assisted by the St. Lawrence Sheriff’s Department.
