Cornwall, NY – On May 6, 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m., State Police stopped a car on I-87 in the town of Cornwall for multiple vehicle and traffic violations.  While interviewing the driver, probable cause to search the vehicle and the occupants was established.  The passenger, Zachary A. Lewis, 28, of Hudson, NY, was found to be in possession of approximately 54 grams of heroin. 

 

Lewis attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by the Trooper and taken into custody.  Lewis was transported and processed at SP Newburgh where he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell 3rd degree; both Class B Felonies.  He was additionally charged with Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree; both Class A Misdemeanors.

 

Lewis was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Cornwall Court on June 10, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.
