On May 19, 2020, at approximately 4 p.m. State Police initiated a traffic stop on a 2004 GMC Yukon as it was traveling northbound on I-87 in the town of Peru at 98 mph in a posted 65 mph zone. The vehicle failed to stop and continued on I-87 exiting at exit 36. The vehicle ran through the stop sign without stopping and continued north on State Route 22. The suspect vehicle then entered the city of Plattsburgh, turning onto various streets until it eventually left the city limits by entering back onto State Route 22. The vehicle traveled into Beekmantown, Chazy and eventually into Altona, where it nearly struck Clinton County Sheriff’s patrol cars. Spike strips were successfully deployed on Devils Den Road, rendering the car inoperable.
The operator refused to exit the vehicle, and after a brief struggle with troopers, was taken into custody. He was identified as 20-year-old Roman Kintner, of Keeseville. A passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Camille Allen, of Plattsburgh was also detained. She was found in possession of a small quantity of marijuana. Kintner was transported to the University of Vermont Health Network at CVPH in Plattsburgh for lacerations he sustained during his arrest.
Kintner was charged with DWAI-Drugs, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree, and Resisting Arrest. He and Allen were released with tickets to appear in court at a later date and time.
A Trooper, who obtained minor injuries during the course of the investigation, was treated and released from CVPH for minor lacerations.
The pursuit lasted 20 minutes, covered approximately 25 miles and reached a top speed of 80 mph.
On May 17, 2020, Kintner and Allen were arrested after they were stopped on State Route 9N in the town of Ausable for failure to keep right. Kintner was operating with a suspended license. They were both found in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine.
Kintner and Allen were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree and released on appearance tickets.
On May 18, at around 7 a.m., Kinter and Allen were stopped when they were found traveling northbound on Interstate 87, operating at a high rate of speed, 95 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone. The vehicle exited the interstate off of exit 38, onto Route 22 in the town of Plattsburgh, where it was located in the driveway of 5285 North Catherine Street in the city of Plattsburgh. Kintner was operating with a suspended license and was found in possession of marijuana and he was released with tickets.
Later that morning at approximately 11 a.m., Kintner was stopped again for making an illegal left hand turn at the intersection of State Route 9 and Commodore Thomas Macdonough Highway in the town of Plattsburgh. Again he was found operating with a suspended license.
He was found to be operating while impaired and he was in possession of methamphetamine.
He was charged with DWAI-Drugs, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree. He was released on appearance tickets for Plattsburgh City Court.
