On September 4, 2021, at 8:43 p.m., State Police conducted a traffic stop on State Route 9 in the town of Peru. The operator, 25-year-old Nathan A. Belanger of Keeseville, was subsequently arrested for DWI. His blood alcohol content was determined to be 0.09%. He was also found to have a suspended license and operating in violation of a restriction of having an interlock device. He was charged with DWI, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st degree (felony). Belanger was released with tickets returnable to the Town of Peru Court.
