Due to the number of complaints from the public, over the July 4th holiday weekend, State Police targeted people bringing illegal fireworks purchased in Pennsylvania into New York State.

On June 26, 2020 New York State Police at Owego received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle .  At approximately 8:57 p.m., a trooper on State Route 17 in Owego spotted that vehicle committing vehicle and traffic infractions and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.

The special STOP-DWI enforcement campaign will include increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints to deter, identify, and arrest impaired drivers, as well as underage drinker enforcement. The enforcement initiative runs from Saturday, February 1 through Monday, February 3.

Spencer man arrested on weapons and drug charges

On August 28, 2019 at approximately 2:30 a.m., troopers from SP Owego initiated a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Cobalt for an equipment violation while on State Route 282 in the town of Nichols.  Troopers determined that the operator of the vehicle did not have a license and was suspended.  A further investigation revealed that the passenger of the vehicle, Chuck E. Weigand, age 61 of Spencer, was in possession of a stolen and loaded gun.  Troopers also discovered acetaminophen and hydrocodone bitartrate in his possession.

New York State Police at Richfield Springs and a local farmer are looking for the public’s help in locating approximately 75 escaped buffalo.  The owner of the buffalo, Brian has asked anyone who sees the them to contact him so he can attempt to bring them back to his farm.  The State Police warns the public not to approach the buffalo since they are a wild animal and can be unpredictable.
