On September 12, 2020, at approximately 9:07 p.m., State Police responded to Stewart’s Shop on Main Street in Peru for a report of a car crash. An investigation at the scene revealed that a 2016 Jeep Cherokee operated by 32-year-old Michael C. Hamm, of Willsboro, struck a ditch in the parking lot. Hamm was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He refused to submit to a test to determine the alcohol content of his blood. He was charged with DWI. Hamm was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 1st degree (E felony) due to having a suspended license and driving while intoxicated. He was released with tickets to appear in the Town of Peru Court at a later date.
