PRESS RELEASE
 

On February 17, 2022, at approximately 5:22 a.m., New York State Police at Margaretville arrested Richard T. Hildebrandt Jr., age 32 of Mastic Beach, NY for the misdemeanor of Driving While Impaired by Drugs.  

Troopers were dispatched by Delaware County 911 to a report of a suspicious person in the parking lot of Mountain Side Residential Care.  Troopers located the described vehicle and person parked at the Margaretville Hotel.  He was identified as Hildebrandt.  

While talking to Hildebrandt, troopers observed characteristics associated with impairment.  Hildebrandt was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which confirmed impairment and he was arrested.  He was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert and issued appearance tickets to the Middletown Town Court on March 3, 2022.  

Troopers also noticed that Hildebrandt had numerous items inside his vehicle that didn’t seem to add up to the reason why he was in the area.  They secured his vehicle and items which included sports equipment, tools, and other miscellaneous items.

A further investigation revealed that numerous unlocked vehicles were rummaged through in the Margaretville area prior to Hildebrandt’s arrest.  Many of the stolen items were located in Hildebrandt’s vehicle.   

On March 13, 2022, Hildebrant was additionally charged, with the class “E” felonies of Grand Larceny in the fourth degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fourth degree.  He was also charged with four counts of the misdemeanor Petit Larceny, four counts of the misdemeanor Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the fifth degree.  

One vehicle which was locked, sustained damages and Hildebrant was charged with the misdemeanor of Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree.  

He is scheduled to appear in the Middletown Town Court on April 14, 2022.
