On January 5, 2022 at approximately 5:14 p.m., New York State Police at Deposit arrested Anthony CM Masi, age 29 of Sidney, NY. He was wanted on an arrest warrant for Assault in the first degree, a class “B” felony. His charges stemmed from an assault that occurred in town of Oneonta on December 30, 2021 where a victim was seriously injured.
Masi was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree, a class “D” felony.
Shortly before 5:00 p.m., Troopers received information that officers from the village of Sidney Police Department spotted Masi in a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop him. Masi failed to comply and fled from Sidney Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies on State Route 8 in the town of Masonville.
Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle on State Route 8 but Masi continued to fail to comply and traveled onto State Highway 17. Masi ultimately stopped on State Highway 17 in the village of Hancock and was taken into custody with the assistance of village of Sidney Police, village of Hancock Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s.
Masi was processed at SP Deposit for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the third degree charge and arraigned by a judge. He was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to appear in the Hancock Village Court at a later date.
Masi was turned over to troopers from SP Oneonta where he was processed on the arrest warrant for Assault in the first degree. He was arraigned at Otsego County Jail and remanded on $50,000 cash or credit bail or $500,000 bond.
State Police are asking the public’s help in locating 29-year-old Anthony Masi after an assault in Oneonta.
On December 30, 2021, at around 6:00pm, State Police in Oneonta were called to the Budget Inn on State Route 23 for a report of a woman bleeding.
When Troopers arrived they found a victim bleeding heavily from a large cut on her nose.
The preliminary investigation determined the victim was attacked by Masi with a machete-type knife during an argument.
The victim was taken to Bassett Hospital, and transferred to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse to undergo surgery.
