PRESS RELEASE

On March 4th, 2021, Troopers out of SP Jamestown arrested Zachary Barner, 28, of Marcellus, for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs.

Cattaraugus County 911 advised all area patrols that a white 2007 Dodge Charger was just stolen from Olean General Hospital and that the suspect was Barner. The Troopers observed the suspect vehicle on I-86 in Red House and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to comply. The vehicle continued on I-86, driving in the shoulder and exiting the roadway multiple times as it fled from the Troopers, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff Deputies, New York State Parks Police and Salamanca Police. The vehicle exited the interstate at Exit 20 and came to a stop. Barner was placed under arrest, the vehicle was turned over to the Olean Police Department and subsequently returned to the owner. Barner was transported to SP Jamestown, processed and issued appearance tickets. Barner is scheduled to appear in the town of Salamanca Court on a later date. Barner was then turned over to Olean Police for processing.
